Nirvana Upanishad: The path of renunciation and salvation

The Nirvana Upanishad describes in detail the Hindu monastic life and the character and existence of the ascetic. This Upanishad describes the external and internal state of the sannyasi, but does not discuss any aspect of life, qualifications or sanskars before sannyasi. From its sutra-style it is estimated that it was composed in the last century of the first millennium BCE and was included in the sutra text period before being compiled and classified as an Upanishad. It was probably composed in the centuries around the beginning of the Common Era.

Nirvana Upanishad is related to the Rig Veda and presents a detailed discussion on the ultimate goal of life and the means to be free from the cycle of 'Nirvana' or 'Moksha'. In this, the esoteric principles of Paramhansa-Sanyasi have been explained through the formulaic method.

Thus, the Nirvana Upanishad presents an in-depth analysis of various aspects of the life of an ascetic and is an important source for understanding the path to attaining salvation.
